In 2005, there was an effective cure for leprosy in India. However, it was crucial to diagnose cases early and treat them promptly to prevent the disease from progressing and causing permanent disability. Unfortunately, fear of stigma and discrimination often prevents people from seeking treatment openly, which means they may unknowingly transmit the disease to others. That’s why initiatives like strengthening, empowering, and community-led approaches are being actively promoted by TNF (The Nippon Foundation). Such efforts are critical to raising awareness and reducing discrimination, as well as removing barriers that prevent people from seeking medical help and empowering themselves economically. The Nippon Foundation’s consistent support and partnership with the National Forum have been community-focused approaches to initiate programs that are planned, led, and designed for the community. Both organizations are committed to joint action to achieve a common goal: an inclusive society where everyone’s rights are respected and can explicitly participate in society.
