On 21st February 2024, The APAL State Committee in Chhattisgarh recently conducted a self-care Prevention of Disabilities (POD) program aimed at promoting health prevention measures. The program provided essential training and guidance to individuals on how they can prevent disabilities resulting from preventable health conditions by adopting simple yet significant preventive measures. Notably, the program attracted many participants from leprosy colonies who found it enlightening and empowering to understand the importance of self-care in their daily lives.

During the program, the APAL Committee highlighted various concerns, including unhealthy work-life balance habits, unhealthy dietary patterns, sedentary lifestyles, and other poor habits that contribute to the onset of disabilities. Following a detailed discussion, the program emphasized that making small, simple, but significant lifestyle changes could help individuals avoid disabilities. By regularly engaging in physical exercises, consuming a balanced diet, prioritizing mental health, reducing stress levels, and undergoing regular medical checkups, individuals can sidestep disabilities originating from non-hereditary, non-communicable diseases.

The program’s outcome underscores the need for individuals to take responsibility for their health by adopting preventive measures to avoid disabilities. By doing so, individuals can minimize the potential impact of preventable health conditions on their overall well-being.
